Playing with mud

Years ago, Amy decided to give Ceramics a try, just for something different. She fell in love with the ability to play with mud and create functional art.

With the life as a public servant working in an office behind her, as an established professional Ceramic artist she enjoys the creative lifestyle working at home from her recycled Shipping Container studio.

Sustainability

Keeping our impact on the environment as negligible as possible is very important to us at Deep Blue Ceramics. In everything we do, everything we use, we try to have a minimal impact as possible. We’ve recently been certified as #netzero! 🎉

Our kilns are powered by the sun and we reduce, reuse and recycle as much of the studio consumables as possible, even including the water and clay!

When we mail we use a zero net carbon emissions courier within Australia using recycled or recyclable packaging materials.

Meet our team

Amy

Amy is hands and heart behind Deep Blue Ceramics.

Devoid of creativity for much of her previous professional life she fell head first into Ceramics; learning, making, sharing and teaching.

She's deeply passionate about the environment and social justice issues and strives for positive impact.

Amy's is Deep Blue Ceramic's maker, when you buy something from us, you'll know it's her dedication that's brought the piece to life.

She loves to share her love for clay through a wide variety of classes. Her style is laid back, supportive and inclusive.

When she's got some free time you'll find her underwater, being mesmerised and inspired by the ocean.

Bron

Ever since Bronwyn first saw Deep Blue Ceramics at the markets one Sunday morning she has fallen in love clay and ceramics.

For over two years, her free time has been spent creating through hand building, wheel throwing and being a part of Deep Blue Ceramics. She has participated in multiple classes and courses, run markets and is now teaching hand building classes.

She looks forward to sharing the love of clay with people and introducing them to Deep Blue Ceramics!

Nurdan

Nurdan is a teacher, a digital designer and a ceramic artist with a lifelong passion for crafting in quilting, sewing, embroidery, and various crafts.

She discovered clay in 2016 and never looked back. She loves both wheel throwing and the slow process of hand-building. Whatever she makes, she crafts each one with love, thought, and dedication.

Nurdan loves to share her skills and knowledge with wheel-throwing beginners and in term 2 she is excited to teach our after school kids #clayplay term course.

Olivia

Olivia is an adventurous creative who has many hobbies in my free time including working with clay, painting, crocheting, hiking, a passion for snowboarding and many more.

Olivia draws inspiration from nature as it is the purest form of art.

She is excited to see what opportunities 2024 brings with Deep Blue Ceramics and expanding her skill set!

Kate

Kate is a creative artist on Ngunnawal Country.

She balances the slow, careful practice of ceramics with more fleeting, abstract paintings on giant canvases.

Kate is excited to start sharing her ceramics skills with Beginner Wheel Students at Deep Blue Ceramics in April.

Carol

Carol's passion is working with clay and creating pottery with a whimsical touch for the home and garden.

She has been working with clay for over 40 years and I am always finding more to learn and experience in this amazing art form.

Carol enjoys sharing my skills and finding new ways to push the boundaries of her pottery experience.

I look forward to teaching workshops at Deep Blue Ceramics in 2024.

I hope to see you there!!

Rowan

Rowan is the behind the scenes everything handy person for Deep Blue Ceramics.

He is a talented potter, occasionally dabbling in production, but mostly keeping things running smoothly. He happily lends himself to clay recycling, packing and unpacking kilns, laundry, carpentry, markets and anything in between!

When he’s not keeping things on track you’ll find him flying his paraglider or riding his bike.

Sian

Sian is nearing the end of BArts and BVisual Arts. After starting out as a painter, she has fallen in love with the process and materiality of ceramics as well as the endless possibilities of glaze development.

Sian has brought this interest to Deep Blue Ceramics team as a technical studio assistant, as well as helping during classes as an assistant teacher.

When she's not making or studying she enjoys reading, time in nature and snuggling her cat.

Kristen

Kristen is a maker and artist who finds herself most at home when working with clay. She primarily works with wheel throwing and underglazes, and enjoys creating playful and vibrant functional ware. She also enjoys hand building and sculpting with clay, painting, crocheting, embroidery and drawing.

When she is not in her studio, you might find her long boarding, kayaking, hiking or learning to surf at the beach; she loves all things nature.

Kristen teaches art and ceramics at a local college, and is excited to teach beginning wheel work classes with Deep Blue Ceramics.

Maricelle

Maricelle is a full-time practising ceramic artist encapsulating memories and nostalgia through her works, infusing a unique cross-cultural language from her birthplace of South Africa with the Australian landscape. Maricelle creates larger hand built works as well as smaller thrown vessels, adorned with colourful, intricately layered surface decoration using underglazes and sgraffito.

Maricelle enjoys sharing her knowledge and love for ceramics and the ability to turn a piece of the earth into something that reflects who you are as a person - making each and every piece truly unique.

Penny

Penny has been a potter on and off for many years. She enjoys making functional stoneware pieces and exploring colour through layers of sprayed glaze that she makes herself. Her home studio is tiny, but she still seems to end up with too many finished pieces to use herself or to give away, so she often sells her surplus at local markets. When she is not playing with clay she is being a mum to two teenagers, gardening or working as a vet.
